Education.
I help other people use words to make things.
1. I’ve spent years helping people talk to writers and readers across space and time. That’s a silly & very accurate way of saying that I’ve taught English and literature to children and young adults of all ages.
I believe language & literature can be a source of radical change, insight, and joy, or at least fun. I admit that I’ve been known to assign my own writing (only once).
2. I’m one half of Map the Path Education Consulting, which helps families navigate educational transitions and challenges. With educator Joanne M. Carris, PhD, I help families cut through the clutter of voices and narratives about what each child needs so they can find their own path.
We also help college applicants write their own stories literally (in their college applications and essays) and figuratively (as they learn, through the college process, about who they are and who they want to be and find their way to a school where they can grow and thrive).
3. I created Unblocked, one-on-one coaching to help people express and transform themselves through writing. It’s been dormant for a long time, but it’s still lurking on the internet. Feel free to check it out and take the quiz to learn what kind of writer you are or could become. Maybe you’ll inspire me to resurrect it.
